INSPIRED FESTIVAL BLOG POST BY KIERAN CLAYTON

The inspired festival is such an amazing event which showcases work from a range of design disciplines. The School of Architecture and Design had a great show this year and after having a look around I have selected a couple of my favourite pieces, which have really inspired me as a furniture designer.

Cord collection from Thomas Harwood is one of my favourite pieces, as it demonstrates a focus on function and form as well as adopting a personality. The collection is made from Bamboo block board and finished in Danish Oil. This creates a natural look that contrasts against the colourful shock cord and mild steel legs. The use of shock cord a semi-transparent front, is such creative and new notion from the traditional door or draw. All the objects within the collection are truly amazing, demonstrating great talent and hard work!

Håll from Beau Birkett is also another interesting piece, as it has a strong focus on sustainable design. The collection is made up of a coat stand, floor light and a stool. All the pieces utilise thermoformed PET felt from recycled plastic bottles, which demonstrates furniture design of the future!
