BARCELONA TRIP

Here you can view the Barcelona trip through a First Year's eyes. A student documented their entire visit to Barcelona day by day, hour by hour. At the bottom of the page is a link to the video that was made for a more visual experience.

BARCELONA - (08/02/2016)

Up early on the first day after a necessary late night at the bar we kicked off the day with a much needed cup of tea and sandwich. The group then headed out to the incredible architectural spectacle that is the Sagrada Familia. The magnificent building could be seen from all the way down the street as the spires rose above all of the other surrounding buildings. As we got closer the details off all the stone work were visible and the shear size of the building was inconceivably huge.

As we headed inside the heads again titled back to look at the cast interior space. From marble flooring to stain glass and massive stone spiral stair cases, the view continued to impress. After following the audible tour, it was time to get some food. Pizza sprang to mind so we got the Barcelona app and walked for what felt like miles and thank to a certain someone, we walked in a giant circle. After this unwanted exercise we finally found a pizza restaurant. The pizza was fantastic, as was the beer and made some of the others very jealous that they didn’t order the same.

We headed off down into the tube station and went straight to Port Vell. Looking at expensive yachts and a couple of supercars we went to the beach where we sat in the sand with our ice creams to enjoy the view. After some sunbathing we hopped back on the tube and back to the hostel. On the way we walked through El Gòtic looking at all the expensive and fancy shops but all a bit too tired to go in.

After some sleep we prepared for a night in the bar and after discovering the 7.2% Moritz Epidor Beer, we knew it would be a long night in. We headed out at 1:30am to look for another bar and after a long walk, many selfies and some songs we thought it was time to head back, concluding our first day in Barcelona.

BARCELONA - (10/02/2016)

We visited Casa Mila on the Wednesday morning. It was a crazy building to say the least, and what made it better was the view on top of it. The roof was crazy and you could even see La Sagrada Familia as well the beach and various other landmarks which made for some fantastic photos. There was an audible tour for this as well and a gift shop at the end which some members of our group refused to leave. After this visit it time for more breakfast and when we were fuelled up we headed off to get the scooters again as they were a brilliant way to get more things done and seen in a short amount of time. After seeing more of Barcelona, racing past shops restaurants for miles we fancied a burger. There was a brilliant burger restaurant just next to the beach. It was awesome inside and we all wrote our name on these wooden spoons they supplied and pinned them onto the restaurant wall with all the other hundreds of spoons, random but a great memory nevertheless.

For the last night we went for it in the bar; beers, cards, new friends and a random arm wrestling competition of which the cheers must have woken up half of Barcelona! The night was full of fun and long lasting memories as well as new long lasting friendships. But as all things do that night came to an end in the late AM, and all of us went off to bed knowing that we had capped off a fantastic design trip in the best fashion possible.

BARCELONA - (09/02/2016)

Another early start and an incredible steep hill up to Park Güell. The view was expansive and you could see right to the beach. It quite a short visit around the park but the architecture and greenery were an amazing spectacle. We soon walked back down the the city centre to find some food and ended up eating outside the Sagrada Familia. After a short conversation we decided that the beach needed another visit. So when bought a volley ball and soon enough we were at the beach marking out a volleyball court in the sand. After an hour or so of playing volleyball and football, one of our friends flew by on an electric scooter... and the next few hours of our day was filled with zooming miles up and down the sunny coast.

Later that night we were discussing on what to do and the beach volleyball was such a success that we decided that we should go and play it in the dark on the beach. It was still warm and we got even more people to come with us and we ended up playing for a couple of hours.
